Milano

Getting ready for a city break in Milan? Well, we’ve put together a mini travel guide to Milan to help you plan your trip more easily. I teach you how to get from the airport cheap and easy, where to choose your accommodation, what sights to see and what and where to eat. In the first part we are talking about how you can get from Milan Airports to the City Centre.

Are you ready?

from Milan Airports to the City Centre

How to get from Milan Airports to the City Centre – Linate Airport

Linate airport is 7 km from Milan’s central train station and there are two options for transferring from the airport:

Bus 73 is the one that takes you to the city centre, to the Via Battisti stop. From the bus stop, you have to walk approx. 10 minutes to the Duomo of Milan.

A bus ride costs 2 euros.

Taxi – there is no fixed price for airport rides, so it’s very hard to estimate how much it might cost (Milan is a crowded city, and it’s a pain for us to drive into the city). A taxi ride can cost 25-30 euros.

How to get from Milan Airports to the City Centre – Malpensa Airport

Malpensa Airport is the largest airport in the Milan area. Like Orio al Serio, Malpensa airport is located at approx. 50 km from the city centre.

The most practical way to get from the airport to the city centre is by coach. Terravision runs a number of services between the airport and Milan Centrale, and a trip costs €10.

A bus ride costs 10 euros.

On the other side, taxi will cost 90-12 euros.

How to get from Milan Airports to the City Centre – Bergamo Airport

Despite the name that appears on your plane ticket or search engine – Milano Bergamo, Bergamo is actually another city in Lombardy, located at approx. 50 km away from Milan. However, Orio al Serio airport is very well connected to Milan’s central train station (Milano Centrale). The most practical option is public transport – train or bus, as a taxi ride can cost you 100-150 euros.

Bus – from the airport

Terravision is the company that connects Bergamo airport to Milan central station, buses leave every 23-30 minutes, right in front of the airport, and the journey to Milan takes one hour. If you only have 5-6 hours between flights, it’s best to book at least 2h30 for transfers. In this situation, my opinion is that it’s not worth going all the way to Milan, Bergamo is a better idea for a short ride.

Price: 8 euro/trip.

Train – from Bergamo

There’s also the option of going by train, but to take the train to Milan you need to get to Bergamo central station. The train journey takes less than an hour and costs €5.60 by regional train. My opinion is that this option is far too complicated.

To get to the train station or to the city centre (if you want to visit Bergamo), you can take a local bus, line number 1, and in approx. 15 minutes you will reach Bergamo’s central train station. You can also take this bus to the city centre, Citta Alta. A ticket costs €2.40. You can also buy a 24-hour ticket for unlimited travel for €5.
